ABOUT DR CONSTANTINE

The intersection of education, communication, and human performance.

I’m Dr Constantine Samartzis, an educator and coach. My work has developed around two closely connected areas: helping medical professionals prepare for high-stakes communication exams such as OET, and working privately with doctors navigating change in their careers and lives.

The subjects are different, but the way I work is much the same: careful assessment, evidence, structure, and attention to the person in front of me rather than a generic programme.

A foundation in academic rigour.

My work is grounded in education, applied linguistics, coaching, and years of teaching people to perform under pressure. I hold a PhD in Education Policy from the University of the Aegean, an MSc from the University of Bristol, and a BA from the University of London.

Research matters to me, but so does whether something survives contact with real life. Doctors work around rotas, exams, relocation, relationships, fatigue and competing priorities. So the methods I use have to be practical enough to work in the middle of all that, not just sound convincing on paper.

Targeted Interventions

  • OET Preparation: Structured, exam-specific preparation across Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, built around the criteria OET actually uses.
  • Medical Interview Preparation: Structured mock interviews with focused feedback on communication, clinical presence and the demands of the role you are applying for.
  • Coaching for Doctors: Private, evidence-based coaching for doctors navigating change in work or life — from relocation and career decisions to habits, relationships, direction and the parts of life that medicine can quietly push aside.

THE BASELINE

Ethics, Boundaries, and Evidence

Evidence over opinion. The methods I use draw on established approaches including Positive Psychology, Solution-Focused coaching and CBT-informed frameworks. Where research exists, I want to know what it actually says rather than borrowing the language of science for effect.

Clear boundaries. Coaching is not therapy or medical care. If something falls outside the scope of the work, I’ll say so plainly and, where appropriate, suggest that you speak with a suitably qualified professional.

Progress you can see. At the beginning, we agree what matters in your particular situation and what would count as meaningful progress. Not everything needs a number, but there should be something we can point to and say: this is different now.

Next steps

If you've read this far, the next step can be simple.

If you're preparing for OET, we can talk about the exam, your timeline and what kind of preparation would actually help. If you're here because something in your work or life needs attention, we can talk about that instead.
